Fresh Start

As is evident by the length between my last post and this, I fell off the Gratitude wagon. A series of events, including a ruined furnace and subfreezing temps, a fallen ceiling beam, and not a single job prospect for either of us, have conspired to rob us of our joy.

Just as God's mercies are new every morning, so is hope. While I know that I should have chosen hope in midst of my circumstance, I am grateful that He allows me to choose it again now, on this bright crisp day when anything seems possible.

Hurby has a job prospect, short-term but still a job. I will figure our taxes this weekend and then move on to a few creative projects I've been mulling over for some time. Buddy is enjoying school for the first time in a long while. We are healthy and we are together. Life is good.

Hope

This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
Lamentations 3: 21-23

Joy in the morning

Joy is what happens when we allow ourselves to

recognize how good things really are.

~ Marianne Williamson

The sun is shining! The birds are singing!

The tank is clean!

Oops! Sorry! I was channeling Peach from Finding Nemo. Love that movie. Allison Janney's voice was perfect for that role.

Thankful today for
  • sunshine
  • hot coffee
  • central heating
  • pleasant mornings with Spence before school
  • quiet after he's gone
  • purring cat beside me
  • laptops that allow me to post comfortably

Life is good.

New Year

Counting our blessings:

1. 2009 is a new year. A new year in which to achieve great things - or mediocre things - ours to decide.

2. Living in a great school district. It is a good feeling to know that we are sending our son to people who care about him, who will educate him fully, who will help him rise to his full potential.

3. The wood-burning fireplace in our living room. Comforting on a dreary (read "rainy") Mississippi winter day.

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. — Martin Luther King, Jr.
